Creery Wetlands reserve is located off Darwin Terrace in Mandurah.

The reserve protects an endangered samphire coastal environment that might not look that important to human eyes, but is a vital inter-tidal zone that is an essential habitat for birds, invertebrates and other creatures.

Samphires are small but important plants in estuarine ecosystems. They help to stabilise the shoreline and absorb nutrients that wash from the land towards the water. They also provide food and shelter for many small animals that in turn feed birds, fish and the crabs that people catch in the estuary.

22 different species of migratory shorebirds are known to visit the area each year. The birds fly in for the southern summer and leave again in time to reach their breeding ground during the northern summer.

Quendas and kangaroos also call the reserve home.

Boardwalks have been constructed across the wetlands and allow to to explore without damaging the vegetation.

The reserve is managed by the national parks.

Alongside the fenced off reserve is a more traditional parkland with attractive lakes, shelters, seats, tables and BBQs.

The full walk trail through the wetlands and back through the park is a 3 kilometre loop. The walk trail is flat, firm and easy for just about anyone to complete.

Dogs are not permitted in the fenced off area of the reserve and 1080 baits are used in that area.
